"Mom's Moral Compass"
Matthew 20:20-28
May 11, 2008
A Mother's Request
20Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
21"What is it you want?" he asked.
She said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom."
22"You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said to them. "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?"
"We can," they answered.
23Jesus said to them, "You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father."
24When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
25Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
26Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
27and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—
28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
1. Moms have the GREATEST impact on the future of their children (20-21)
2. The purpose of children is to bring GLORY to God. (God, family, church) (22-23)
3. Serving and not being served should be the GOAL for our children. (24-28)
Are you grooming your children for power, prestige, or for their true purpose?
"The Five Love Languages"
Ephesians 5:22-25
May 4, 2008
Passage Ephesians 5:22-25:
Wives and Husbands
22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

"The Obstacle Course"
Romans 14:13-18
April 27, 2008
Passage Romans 14:13-18:
13Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way.
14As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean.
15If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died.
16Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil.
17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,
18because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.
1. Christians have the ablility to DESTROY new believers. (13-15)
2. The Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and DRINKING. (16-17)
3. Righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit will DELIGHT God and bless men. (17-18)
Have you erected obstacles that have kept new belivers from growing in Christ?
"Mirrow, Mirror on the
Wall . . . "
James 1:23-27
April 20, 2008
Passage James 1:23-27:
23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Identity is derived from either humanity or God.
Identity from God produces freedom and blessing. (25)
Superficiality and shallowness come naturally from the ego, but depth of character and true purpose flow naurally from obedience to the Holy Spirit.
Controlling the tongue, resisting wordly pollution, and ministering to the widow and the orphan should identify our lifestyles.
